Who Is Natchie?
Natchie is Australian singer/songwriter Nadia Ackerman and the artistic force behind DUMBO’s Natchie Art at 141 A Front Street on the corner of Pearl Street.
Early 1998 Nadia decided to pack her suitcase and move from her native Sydney, Australia to New York City to pursue her dream of being a jazz singer in the big apple. Five pop albums, appearances on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, SNL and Good Morning America, and performances with music industry greats including Sting, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and Billy Joel later…she has crammed a lot into her career as a singer.
In 2012, Nadia began to see her songs as images, and felt an overwhelming desire to draw her music. Out of this desire was born “Natchie” (from the nickname her dad gave to her when she was 13). At Natchie , Nadia draws each of her songs; each piece of art comes with lyrics and a free download code to own the song. In addition to her first retail store in DUMBO, Nadia's short film "Time To Live Again" by Healthination, produced and directed by Jacquelyn Lobel has been nominated for a 2017 Daytime Emmy Award. Nadia continues to sing, write and perform and is currently working on her 6th Pop album to be released late 2017.
What Makes NatchiE Different ?
Natchie is unique.
It's not just an image. It's a song and an image in one. The process is complicated and simple all at once. Nadia starts with a song. She sits down at the piano and writes the song first. The song then gets produced and released on an album. Once the song is complete Nadia draws an image that represents the meaning of the entire song.
